Family Games: Top Board Games to Play With Your Family
Family board games are generally easy to set up and understand, without too many complex rules, and not a super long game play time. Or at least that’s what they should be like, but when you consider a game such as Monopoly, with its complexity and the potential for a game to go on for hours, family board games are hard to categorize.
Family games appeal to older children who are ready to appreciate a good strategy game, and can be easily taught to and appreciated by non-gamers as well.
Family Games: Top Board Games to Play With Your Family
1. Ticket To Ride – Days of Wonder
Easy, but challenging. Ticket to Ride is a game where you can be nice and not mess with your opponents supposed destination, or you can try and block them. You get points according to the tracks you lay and connections you make. This is an excellent game for 2-5 players, and especially for kids.
2. Forbidden Island
In this game 2-4 people may play at the same time. The minute the game begins, the island starts flooding! Every turn, a player does up to 3 actions, takes a couple of treasure cards, and draws a couple of flood cards. Every flood card matches a tile on the game board. If the tile is in it’s normal state, you flip it to flood it. This may sound complicated but it really isn’t. This makes a great board game for beginners.
3. Blokus Family Borad Game – Mattel
Unlike most family games, the rules are simple and once you’ve played it through one time (or watched it through one time) all your effort can go into plotting your moves. The game doesn’t run out of possibilities, either; every game is different, even if you play with the same people over and over.
4. Castle Panic – Fireside Games
Castle Panic is a fantastic family game.
It’s a fun, lighthearted game that doesn’t involve a lot of set up, let’s you work together, and involves slaying crazed monsters – what’s not to love.
5. King of Tokyo – IELLO
King of Tokyo is a real knock’em n’ sock’em brawl. Combat is all about ganging up. The one monster in Tokyo hurts all the others at once — and every monster outside of Tokyo attacks only the monster inside. With the constant moving of players’ monsters in and out of Tokyo — that is, in and out of the center of the brawl — there’s a great King of the Hill experience going on.
6. HedBanz Game – Spin Master Games
Spice up your family board games night with the Hedbanz Board Game, a fun, fast-paced, and simple question game that everyone aged 6 and up can enjoy. In a group of two to six players, you’ll draw an identity card for an animal, food, or common object but with one catch–everyone but you will see the card, displayed by the headband on your forehead.
